Why Won’t My iPad Sync With My Computer?
The iTunes software on your computer and the iPad apps that you choose to sync with it allow you to transfer music, videos, photos, books, contacts and more between your devices. Typically, this process is seamless and trouble-free. However, from time to time things go wrong and your iPad may not sync with your computer. Fortunately, there are several reasons why this can occur and ways to resolve the issue.
The first step with any tech problem is always to restart your device. This is a simple, often effective fix for most problems, including issues with syncing. For most iOS devices, you can restart them by pressing and holding the Top button (iPad Mini) or the Power and Home buttons (iPad Pro). For those with a touchscreen, swipe the power off slider onscreen to shut down your device. Once your device is powered back on, try to manually sync with iTunes again.
Another thing to try is to switch out the USB data cable that you use to connect your iPad to the computer. USB ports can — and do — fail, so a new one could solve the problem. You can also try connecting the iPad to your computer via Wi-Fi rather than using USB. Wi-Fi syncing can be more reliable than USB syncing, and it’s worth a try to see if it resolves the issue.
If the iPad still won’t sync with your computer, check to see if you have enough iCloud storage space available. If you do, delete some old data or upgrade your plan to free up space.
As the OS X Daily website points out, it’s also possible that the problem stems from an outdated version of iOS or iPadOS. Update to the latest versions of these apps and then try to sync again.
You should also make sure that you’re ejecting your iPad properly when you’re done with it on the computer. Just right-click on the iPad in the sidebar in iTunes and select “Eject” to do this.
It’s also possible that you need to reauthorize your iPad with iTunes. According to the OS X Daily website, this can be an issue if you’ve used the same iPad and the same computer for a long time. To reauthorize the iPad, open iTunes and select Account > Authorizations > Deauthorize This Computer or, for Mac, click Store in the menu bar and select Deauthorize This Computer.
The above steps can all help you resolve your iPad won’t sync with my computer issue. If you have tried all of these solutions and the problem persists, you might need to contact Apple to get more assistance. In the meantime, you can download a third-party app like UltFone iOS Data Manager to help restore your files to your iPad. You can find more information about this handy tool by clicking here.
