Why Do Strangers Knock on My Door?

If you’ve ever heard about strangers knocking on your door, you’ve probably wondered why. There are a number of reasons. One of them being that they are seeking help. Depending on the situation, they may have the best of intentions. However, there are some things you can do to protect your home and family.

Using a security camera is a good way to keep track of visitors. This can be especially useful if you’ve got an elderly relative living at home. You can also leave a note to tell visitors where to go and what to do. Having a ring on your doorbell that records a video of anyone who tries to enter is another great deterrent.

The reason a stranger is able to knock on your door in the first place is likely because you don’t answer your doors. This is a common practice and one that can make you the target of a criminal. Even if they’re just asking for directions, you don’t want to put yourself in a predicament.

Not answering the door is a bad idea. That’s not to say that you should ignore every knocker. For example, if you’ve got kids at home, don’t let them tell you that their parents aren’t home. In fact, you should encourage them to ask for the home owner’s permission before they open the door to a stranger. Similarly, if a stranger approaches your home armed with a gun, you might just need to call the police.

On the other hand, ignoring a nefarious knocker is a much more dangerous approach. You don’t want to end up with an armed burglar breaking into your house without your knowledge. To avoid this, you should always be prepared to defend yourself against the unknown.

If you have to answer the door, it’s a good idea to lock it before you start talking to them. Don’t be afraid to say no, particularly if they’re attempting to sell you something. Whether they’re offering you a free tee or a free cab ride to the mall, you’re better off being on your guard.

Although you should never answer a stranger’s question, you should also be aware of their motivations. Oftentimes, strangers are simply trying to help, such as someone delivering a parcel or a mail carrier. They may not even be looking for a break-in. If you’re in a rush, you might be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. But, if they’re inquiring about your personal information or have a question about your house, you’d do well to step outside and take a look.

The reason a stranger is attempting to get into your house is probably because they have a better view of your house from the road. Some people open their doors blindly and some do not. While this does not necessarily indicate they are planning a robbery, it can give them an excuse to do so. Also, they may have a hunch that you have an unlocked garage. Unless you’ve gotten an invitation from a friend, you should never allow any person into your home without your permission.
