Why Cant I Change My Desktop Background?

You can use an image or a solid color as your desktop background. You can set it once and then leave it alone or change it as often as you want. You can also choose a slideshow, which automatically cycles through pictures in your Pictures folder or ones that you have set as favorites.

Some people have problems changing their desktop background and wonder why it won’t work. It’s usually because of a third-party program that’s interfering with Windows’ ability to change the background. It could be any kind of wallpaper management software or it could be an antivirus program.

Depending on the cause of the problem, you might be able to fix it by uninstalling or updating that program. If that doesn’t fix the problem, you can try changing your display settings to see if that helps.

To change your desktop background, you can select one of the options in the drop-down menu of the Personalize window or click a picture or other image on the desktop to select it. Then, you can select whether the picture should fill your screen, fit, stretch, tile, or span. Fill enlarges or reduces the image to fit the space and won’t distort it. Fit makes your image as large as possible but won’t distort it. Stretch makes your image take up the entire screen, and tile puts multiple thumbnails of the picture in a grid on the desktop.

You can also change your wallpaper through the OneDrive app on your phone or tablet. Create a folder in OneDrive for the picture you want to use, and then sync that folder with your computer. After you sync the folder, move or copy the photo to a spot on your computer where you can find it (like in File Explorer). Then, right-click the picture and select “Set as desktop background” located near the top of the long pop-up menu.

If you choose a theme in the Personalization menu, it will change your wallpapers, screen colors, sounds, and mouse cursors to those included with the theme. It’s a great way to get a cohesive look on your PC or mobile device without doing much work.

There are also several ways to change your desktop background if you don’t have the option in the menu. You can also right-click the wallpaper itself and select “Set as desktop background,” which will open a small pop-up window with the same options in the menu.

You can also change the color of your desktop by selecting a solid color from a palette in the Personalize window or by clicking the box below “Color” in the bottom-right corner of the page and picking a color. You can also choose a picture from the Gallery to be used as your background in place of the solid color. You can also choose a slideshow, or have the background randomly rotate through your favorite pictures every so often or in a shuffle mode.
