What Does it Cost to Charter a Yacht?

There isn’t much that says luxury like a private yacht charter. It’s the perfect way to indulge your every whim while relaxing on white sandy beaches and enjoying crystal-clear waters with views as far as the eye can see. If you’re in the market for a charter yacht, however, it’s important to understand what your experience will ultimately cost. The good news is, unlike other vacations, most yacht charters have a fairly fixed price tag that can be easily calculated. But, there are a few things that can affect your final price.

The most obvious factor is the type of yacht you choose. As you might imagine, the larger the yacht, the more it will cost to charter. The yacht’s reputation and features can also have an impact. A yacht that has recently been featured in a movie or is particularly popular during the summer, for example, will likely have higher demand and thus, a higher price.

Another major factor is the time of year you decide to charter. The yachting industry operates in two distinct seasons – winter and summer – and prices are higher during peak times such as over Christmas and the Monaco Grand Prix. The location of the charter will also affect your costs; for example, Caribbean charters are typically more expensive than Mediterranean ones.

It’s also important to note that some yacht charters are not all-inclusive, meaning that while the base rate for the boat is included in your total yacht charter price, additional charges such as food and beverages, fuel, dockage fees and taxes will be owed separately. These estimated incremental expenses are typically covered by an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) which is paid up front and is usually around 30% of the yacht’s base rate.

In some cases, the crew will take care of these additional charges and include them in your overall yacht charter experience. This will save you the time of negotiating these individual charges and may prevent any surprises at the end of your trip.

All-inclusive yacht charter experiences, such as those offered by Worldwide Boat, will include the rental of the boat itself with her insurance, equipment and water toys along with a professional crew, meals and soft drinks, snacks, fuel for cruising up to 4 hours per day and sometimes diving experiences.

Once you’ve figured out your charter boat budget, it’s important to remember that most yachts have plenty of space to accommodate a variety of activities and preferences. That said, it’s always best to plan ahead and communicate with your crew if you intend to host an event or party on board. That way, there are no misunderstandings and everyone is happy.
