Skyrim – Dawnguard Or Vampires?

Are you having a hard time deciding which side to choose in the Dawnguard expansion? There are a number of factors that will influence your decision, including which faction offers the best rewards.

One of the key benefits of the Dawnguard expansion is that it offers a wide variety of new things to do and explore. Some of these aren’t particularly useful, but others can help to make the game even more enjoyable.

You can find out what’s available to you by talking to an NPC in the town of Morthal, located in the northeastern corner of Skyrim. Once you’ve reached the village, you can talk to any Innkeeper or Dawnguard member, who will usually tell you where to go next. The Innkeeper will tell you to head to the mage Falion in Morthal, while the Dawnguard member will direct you to Fort Dawnguard.

If you’re not a fan of playing as a vampire, the Dawnguard faction is worth considering. It gives you access to Castle Volikhar as your player home and unique spells that can heal undead.

However, there are a few drawbacks to the faction. First, when you decide to join the Dawnguard, you lose the ability to use Vampire Lord form on a regular basis. This means that you cannot use this powerful form on any quests in the Volkihar questline until after you complete it.

Furthermore, once you’ve become a member of the Dawnguard, you can’t return to Castle Volikhar and become a vampire again without a different playthrough. This is a major annoyance for some players, as it can be difficult to progress the storyline when you’re unable to complete certain tasks.

The other thing to consider is the fact that the Dawnguard faction has access to the Soul Cairn, which is a dangerous area where a normal human can’t survive. If you choose to join the Dawnguard, Serana can perform a partial soul trap ritual on you that will weaken you enough to allow you to enter the Soul Cairn.

Choosing to side with the Dawnguard also provides you with access to Fort Dawnguard, which has all of the amenities of a home base. It also gives you access to weapons, armor, and spells that work against vampires.

It also gives you the ability to hire Armored Trolls for 500g, which don’t count as a primary follower but do have some special properties.

Finally, Dawnguard members have access to a number of unique pets that they can pet and train, including husky dogs. These pets have a higher intelligence and strength than their corresponding human counterparts.

As for the actual questline itself, both sides have their own unique things to do and explore. While it is possible to side with both factions in the same playthrough, it is preferable to choose a side early on, as it makes it easier to complete the rest of the questline.

Whether you decide to side with the Dawnguard or Volkihar, the Dawnguard expansion is an excellent addition to the world of Skyrim and an exciting new way to experience the game. It’s a great choice for any gamer who wants to try something new and enjoy a little bit of role-playing.
