Photoshop – Why Cant I Enable Layer Mask?
The Layers window shows a layer mask. This can be enabled and disabled via a contextual menu. Similarly, the layer is also capable of being moved to another layer. A mask is a nice touch when retouching photos. Having a mask allows you to easily apply effects such as blurring or blending.
However, if you’ve ever tried to use a layer mask to retouch your photos, you may have encountered the occasional glitch. One such glitch involves the brush tool. For example, you may find that the opacity of your image isn’t changed when you brush on your layer. In this case, it’s best to brush on a solid color such as black. Alternatively, if you have a solid gray hue on your canvas, you can change it to something lighter.
Fortunately, there are some simple fixes for this and similar issues. First, you should try restoring the default settings for your particular version of Photoshop. Next, you should check out the advanced masking feature. If this option is not available, you should consider turning on the Enable Layer Mask feature. Another alternative is to re-open the file that you’re working on. You can then re-apply the brush to the newly re-opened file.
The layers window also has a handy menu that lets you quickly add or delete masks. If you are using the latest version of Photoshop, you’ll be able to select and mask multiple layers at once. Alternatively, you can add masks by control-clicking a layer. Likewise, you can rename, delete, or move the mask.
There’s no reason to limit yourself to the tools and options provided by the layers window. You can also use the contextual menu to re-enable the mask or turn it off. Using the right-click context menu, you can even copy and paste the mask.

Once you’ve opened the dialog, you should be presented with a list of the various mask sources, including the layer that you’re currently working on. Moreover, you can choose to display a list of the most important mask sources in a matrix.
