Micah Fletcher’s Testimony in the TriMet Massacre Trial

Micah Fletcher is a former high school student who was charged with aggravated assault last year. The prosecution argued that Fletcher used harsh language and raised his voice to intimidate Christian. Fletcher argued that he was acting out of self-defense. He said he had a history of fights as a kid, and he had been bullied twice a week because of his autism. The prosecution argued that Fletcher had acted out of uncontrollable anger, but Fletcher explained he had been worried that Christian might throw Namkai-Meche between seats. This was a warning to Christian, and he hoped Christian would leave him alone so that he could focus on Fletcher.

Micah Fletcher survived the deadly stabbings on the TriMet MAX in May 2017. Though he was seriously injured, Micah Fletcher was able to survive the attack. His defense was crucial, as he confronted Jeremy Christian on the Green Line before he stabbed the victims. Micah Fletcher’s testimony was one of the key points of the trial. Though Jeremy Christian has said he acted in self-defense, Fletcher’s testimony is important to the family.

While the prosecution is focusing on Fletcher’s past criminal history, it is important to remember that his defense attorney emphasized Fletcher’s former associations with antifascist protesters in Portland, Oregon. Fletcher’s defense attorney seized on this evidence to paint the events on MAX as a political brawl.

Fletcher’s testimony on the stand was not surprisingly emotional and detailed. While Fletcher was not impulsive in his actions, he paused frequently during the phone call and asked the defense attorney to clarify his questions. This led the defense to question his motivations and thought process.

Christian is charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder for the stabbing of Fletcher. The wound Fletcher sustained came within millimeters of killing him. Fletcher blames Christian for the stabbing, but Christian claims that he acted in self-defense. The prosecutor’s office is urging the jury to find Christian guilty.
