Lashana Lynch Responds to James Bond Backlash

The news of Lashana Lynch’s rumoured appointment as the next female James Bond has caused an outcry on the internet. The thought of a Black actress playing one of the world’s most coveted roles is not surprising, but some internet trolls were not happy about the rumour. Though Lynch herself has not commented on the issue, she did respond to the backlash.

The actress opened up about the online backlash tied to her role as the next 007 in the James Bond film No Time to Die. It was reported last year that she would be taking over Daniel Craig’s role, and it has sparked a flurry of negative reactions. The actress deleted her social media accounts due to the vitriol, but she says it was the right decision.

While there is certainly a backlash over her casting, the actress has been working hard to ensure she would be a great Bond. The actress said that she had met with Phoebe Waller-Bridge and the director Cary Joji Fukunaga before filming to ensure she would be a good fit for the role. She has also consulted with a female co-writer, who contributed to the female perspective in the movie.

Lynch has a history of being cast behind Bond. When the news of her role first leaked, the Internet lit up with racial and misogynistic comments. The actress has said that she feels empowered to tell stories that are meaningful for people of color.

Lynch also revealed that she wanted the role of Nomi to be played by a Black woman. The film was initially set for release in November 2019, but was later moved to February or April 2020. After Danny Boyle’s departure, the film was delayed until at least 2020. The film is now tentatively scheduled for release on April 2, 2021.
