Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you’ve heard of Jalesa McRae, but are you familiar with her wacky kooky shenanigans? If you’re lucky, you’ve even seen her in action. But where did she come from, and what makes her so special? A bit of digging will reveal that the Canadian dance aficionado was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to a German mother and a native Omanis. As a child, she attended Western Canada High School, and also trained at the YYC Dance Project and Drewitz Dance Productions.

McRae was also a member of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. She graduated from the aforementioned Western Canada High School, and proceeded to the University of Toronto. She also participated in several European countries, and was a member of the Efes of Istanbul, a club that won the FIBA Korac Cup in 1995-96. In what was possibly the best team environment, she averaged 8.6 points per game. She had a plethora of accomplishments, and is credited with earning a place in the history books.

She was named to the all-star roster of the Canadian national team, and has won a number of international competitions, including the prestigious Prix de Paris XI, a two-week scholarship to the Berlin State Ballet, and the Youth America Grand Prix. She was also a brand ambassador for Capezio. One of her most coveted awards was a gold medal, and she made history by becoming the youngest ever Canadian to win a gold medal in the Olympics.
