Is Messy Handwriting a Sign of Intelligence?

It is commonly thought that messy handwriting indicates a low intelligence, but this is not the case. In fact, research shows that untidy writing can suggest above-average intelligence and a high level of creativity.

Does your child have poor handwriting?

If your child’s handwriting is messy, it may be a sign of a learning disability called dysgraphia. This is a neurological disorder that affects the way your child writes and it can lead to problems with spelling and punctuation.

Dysgraphia can have other symptoms too, so you need to look out for all the signs of this condition. You can spot these signs by looking at the way the letters are sized and spaced, as well as how they’re written on paper. It’s also a good idea to take note of the fonts your child uses and what they look like on the page.

Are you a creative person?

If you’re a creative person, you have probably noticed how some people’s handwriting isn’t very neat. Some writers are incredibly messy and their handwriting can even be scrawly in some places.

The truth is that the reason you’re messy is because your brain doesn’t process things in the same way as other people. This means that you have to write more quickly to convey the information you want to communicate in a clear way.

That’s why it’s important to focus on your own unique style of writing – you’ll be surprised by how many different ways you can express yourself through it.

You can show off your personality through the way you write – whether it’s by using curved letters that show creativity, or by having a distinct “Comprehensive Thinker” style. If you have a ‘Comprehensive Thinker’ style, you will use distinctive sharp and pointed letters, and they can be very distinguishable.

Those that write with this style are often ‘Cumulative Thinkers’, they will learn through hands-on and practical experiences; you’ll be able to see the creative side of them in their writing.

Another sign of ‘Comprehensive Thinking’ is that you’ll use the ‘i’s’ in your writing with lots of dots over them. Dotting your ‘i’s with hearts, flowers or other bright colors, is a sign of creativity.

Dotting your ‘i’s in the same place over and over again can be a sign of loyalty, or you could do the opposite. It can also be a sign of lack of attention to detail.

Your ‘i’s’ will be positioned in the wrong place on the page or they might even be in the wrong position at all! This can also be a sign of an emotional upset.

There are a lot of reasons why someone might have messy handwriting, but it isn’t always a cause for concern. Often, it is just a case of the way they are taught to write. It’s often the case that kids are not being given enough practice or are taught in a way that isn’t conducive to their handwriting skills.
