Howard Lee

Howard Lee and Vanisha Sellars’ marriage lasted almost two decades. The couple met in 1970 and married two years later. They have five children and reside in Belvidere, Illinois. They were preceded in death by their parents and six brothers. The couple is survived by their five children and their wife Judy. The couple also leaves behind a large circle of friends and extended family. Their private memorial service will take place in the near future.

On June 8, 2008, a man named Howard Lee and his wife, Vanisha, drove through the Eastside of Tacoma in an unmarked car. The two women were sitting in the front seat while the suspect was in the backseat. The driver said he heard a gunshot while driving through the town and pulled into a convenience store for help. The gunman, who was armed with three handguns, then shot Howard and his wife. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Howard’s car was towed away after the shooting. The shooter was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder.

Vanisha Washington

Gary Wade

Gary Wade, Howard Lee and Vanisha are three rising voices in contemporary jazz. Wade, a Brooklyn native, began singing when she was just 12 years old. Her early influences include Sarah Vaughan, the late guitarist and singer of the Rolling Stones. Wade attended LaGuardia High School for the Arts, earned her music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and was selected for the Dianne Reeves Young Artists Workshop at Carnegie Hall. Wade also placed first runner-up at the 2006 New York City Jazzmobile Vocal Competition, where she performed alongside Gregory Porter and other top artists.

Berklee grad

The world-renowned jazz pianist David Kikoski and Vanisha Gould are two of the most prominent young voices in jazz today. After graduating from Berklee School of Music, both musicians worked with legendary artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Quincy Jones, and Ray Charles. Both recently released their latest album, In Her Words, which takes an honest and open look at the inner lives of women.

Manhattan School of Music student

Lucy Yeghiazaryan and Vanisha Gould have worked together on several occasions, including a 1991 collaboration album. The album featured original compositions and curated standards that offered a glimpse into the private lives of women. Both women recently moved to New York, and will be performing together on the stage of The Django for one night only. Vanisha Gould hails from Simi Valley, California, and has collaborated with acclaimed artists such as Anoushka Shankar and Courtney Pine. She has also been nominated for a MOBO award.
