How to Clean Brushed Nickel Bathroom Faucets

Brushed nickel is an attractive choice for a bathroom faucet, but it can also develop mineral deposits over time. If you’re concerned about your brushed nickel fixtures becoming discolored, there are a few simple steps you can take to keep them looking fresh and clean.

#1 – A simple soap (like dish-soap) is the best option for removing finger-smudge marks and water deposits from brushed nickel. These cleaners are usually soft enough to remove these deposits without leaving any additives or grit that will scratch your polished nickel. Try Bon-Ami, Barkeeper’s Friend, Zud or Soft Scrub for this purpose.

#2 – A clean cloth, warm water and a little soap are usually all you need to remove heavy scuffs and dirt from brushed nickel. However, if the dirt or scuffs are very deep, you may need to use a different cleaning method. If you find that you have to use a more aggressive cleaning method, be sure to test the cleaner in an inconspicuous place first.

#3 – For stubborn scuffs or stains, you can try a baking soda and vinegar paste. Smear the paste onto the item and scrub it gently using circular motions until the stains are gone. You may need to repeat this process several times before the stains are completely removed.

#4 – If the stains persist, you can use white vinegar to wash away the stains. Simply apply a small amount of the vinegar to the item and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before scrubbing. After the scuffs are removed, rinse with clean water and dry your brushed nickel fixture.

#5 – A damp, non-abrasive dryer sheet can help you to buff out calcified hard water deposits from your brushed nickel bathroom fixtures. You can find this in the laundry section of most stores.

6.#2 – Avoid caustic and acid/ammonia-based cleaners in the bathroom, as these can be damaging to brushed nickel. Some of these cleaners contain hydrofluoric, hydrochloric and/or phosphoric acids, which can easily strip your brushed nickel from its beautiful finish.

7.#3 – If you’re unsure about how to properly clean your brushed nickel items, ask a professional. They can advise you on the proper methods for cleaning your brushed nickel items and how to protect them from future damage.

8.#3 – Don’t try to clean your brushed nickel with products that are made for other substances, like tiles or wood. These cleaning materials may leave a scuff mark or leave grit that will scratch your brushed nickel, compromising the appearance of your shiny faucet.

9.#2 – Don’t use anything that contains bleach, as it can cause corrosion and staining on your brushed nickel. You should also avoid using any product that contains ammonia or abrasives, as they can damage the finish of your brushed nickel fixtures and sinks.

10.#2 – For more serious stains, you can consider hiring a professional cleaning company to perform this job for you. They will know exactly how to remove stains from brushed nickel and can even do an inspection of your fixtures to ensure they’re free from damage.
