How to Bleach Over Bleached Hair

If you have bleached your hair in the past, it’s not likely that you’ll want to do so again. This is because bleach is a harsh chemical that can dry your hair out, making it brittle and prone to breakage and split ends. It can also cause your color to fade quickly, making it difficult to maintain the shade you desire.

Depending on your natural hair color, it may take multiple bleaching sessions to achieve your desired result. If you’re trying to lighten your hair by a significant amount, you’ll probably need to visit a professional hairstylist.

To determine how many levels of lift you need to get to your desired shade, start by placing a hair color depth chart next to your strands to figure out your natural hair color and the level of color you want to achieve. For example, if you have naturally dark brown hair and you want to go to level eight (light blonde), you’ll need to lift five levels in your first bleaching session.

After determining how many levels of lift you need to get your desired color, mix the bleaching product according to instructions. It’s important to read the directions carefully and follow them exactly, otherwise you could end up with a less than desirable result.

Once you’ve mixed the bleach, apply it to your hair. You can use a brush or comb to distribute it evenly across your strands. Make sure to cover your scalp and keep the mixture away from your eyes.

Let the bleach sit on your strands for about 15 minutes before you rinse it out with shampoo and conditioner. Usually, the bleaching kit will provide a time frame for leaving the solution on your hair, so you’ll know how long to leave it on to achieve the color you want.

Avoid the use of heat styling tools such as flat irons or blow dryers while you’re in the process of whitening your hair. These harsh tools can fry the cuticle and lead to dry, damaged strands that are hard to detangle.

Before you dye your hair, give it a boost of hydration by pre-bleaching it with natural treatment products. Coconut oil, for instance, can be used to prepare your strands for the bleaching process and help them stay soft and supple.

You can also opt for a deep conditioning treatment before the bleaching process to increase your hair’s elasticity and shine. Try a shampoo and conditioner combination that features hydrating natural ingredients, like our Pure Colour Conditioner.

Once your strands are ready for the next step, dye them and enjoy your new shade! Remember to wait at least a day between dyeing and bleaching to allow your strands to fully rehydrate.
