How Old Is Mavis in Human Years?

Mavis turns 119 and is eligible to get married and start a family, but her parents are against it. They feel she is too old and shouldn’t be a vampire.

Mavis takes a job at the hotel to make ends meet, but her father is unhappy with her choices. He worries that she won’t provide for Dennis – who is only four – properly. Additionally, he wants her to get a pet like his own so she has something to occupy her time like Mavis does now.

Mavis and Jonathan decide to have a honeymoon after one year of working at the hotel, but when they arrive at their honeymoon suite Mavis finds her dad cleaning up, which causes her anxiety. She confronts Dracula about these fears and convinces him that she is ready for real intimacy with someone human.

Mavis and her father spend their honeymoon getting to know one another better, and she quickly discovers that he’s not the only vampire in the world who doesn’t approve of their becoming parents. She takes on some of his overprotective tendencies in order to protect Dennis, never letting him leave her side and wanting to move to California where there are more monsters and children like him to help raise him.

Mavis attempts to make her dad happy by thinking about visiting different places she would like to see, but Dracula is not amused. He tries to reassure her that there’s nothing to worry about with Dennis, but Mavis is undecided. Ultimately, however, she decides it is time for Mavis to return home to Transylvania.

Mavis feels lost and worried about Dennis, but Jonathan assures her that both are going to be fine. Additionally, Mavis wants to move to Santa Cruz where Jonathan lives so she doesn’t grow up feeling like a monster and that if Dennis turns out normal and content then they will be happiest together.

Mavis and Jonathan take Mavis to a skate park, where she performs some seemingly impossible tricks with her bike. As Mavis looks on in admiration, her dad Dracula wanted her there to experience human culture but she doesn’t know how to discuss it with him.

Mavis first meets Jonathan’s parents, Mike and Linda, who seem hesitant to show her around the house at first. They have created a special room for Mavis where one half is normal while the other looks completely monster-like; unfortunately she finds this uncomfortable. Mavis then retreats to the roof where Jonathan attempts to console her.

Mavis soon grows weary of her hotel room and wishes for more adventure. She also begins falling in love with a human boy named Jonathan – this affection later known as a Zing – but this only lasts briefly as Dracula quickly takes away Jonathan before she can meet him again.
