How Do I Change Chrome Settings?

Chrome is one of the most popular browsers on the market and it’s easy to customize and tweak it in many ways. But sometimes you might want to reset your settings and return Chrome to its default configuration. This can be for a variety of reasons: perhaps you want to get rid of some unwanted experimental features, or maybe you’ve been using it for too long and are just ready to start over.

Google Chrome offers a number of settings that you can configure to meet your personal web browsing needs, and it’s easy to find them all on the one master Settings page. To open the Settings page, click on the Customize and control Google Chrome button (the three-line button at the top right of the window).

Change Your Language

You can change your default language in the Languages section to make it easier to use the site you prefer. You can also set a list of preferred languages and have Chrome automatically translate pages in those languages.

Captions

If you’re hard of hearing, or if you just like using captions whenever possible, Chrome has a setting that will generate them any time there’s audio present on the page. To turn on captions, go to the Accessibility portion of the settings menu.

Sync and Google Services

You’ll likely use your Google account for most of your online activities, so you’ll probably want to sync that information across multiple devices. But if you’d rather not be linked to your account in this way, you can turn off syncing and personalization on the You and Google page and the Sync and Google services section of Chrome’s Settings.

Pinned Tabs

When you’re browsing, you might often visit the same websites or apps over and over again, so they’re pinned to the Chrome home screen. If you’re not a fan of that, you can remove the pinned tabs feature by resetting Chrome back to its factory defaults.

Background

Changing the background on your Chrome homepage is easy, and it’s a great way to keep it looking clean and modern. You can choose from a variety of options, including a solid color or upload your own image, and then select the Shortcuts tab to switch between automatically generated shortcuts and add your own.

Resetting Your Chrome App

If you’re using the Android or iOS versions of Chrome, you can also change your browser’s default theme. This doesn’t delete any files, though, so you can still use your downloads and bookmarks after a reset.

Google Cloud Print

If your computer doesn’t have a built-in printer, you can print web content from your Chrome browser by using Google Cloud Print. You can manage Cloud Print devices and enable them in the Settings page.

Allow Chrome to sign in

If you frequently access your Google account through Chrome on different computers, you can make it easier to access your bookmarks and other information by allowing Chrome to sign in when you’re signing into your Google accounts. To enable this, go to the You and Google page and the Sync or Google services section of Chrome’s Settings.
