The College Library occupies the first three floors of Helen C. White Hall on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Madison. It is located on the northwest corner of North Park Street and Observatory Drive. Parking is available under the building. The entrance to the building is located on Observatory Drive. The building was named after the late professor Helen C. White, who taught at UW for over forty years. After her doctorate, White became an English instructor at UW-Madison. She taught advanced composition and Shakespeare. She also presented the first major essay on William Blake to the Modern Language Association. She then became a full professor in Madison and mentored graduate students. In 1955, she became the first woman to chair the department of English at UW-Madison.
