Four Tips For Making Your Hard Boiled Eggs Easy to Peel

If you’ve ever tried to peel a hard boiled egg, you know how frustrating it can be. The shell often stays stuck, making it impossible to remove the white. Then you end up with a batch of misshapen, half-peeled eggs that aren’t quite as pretty as they could be.

There’s no way to avoid the problem altogether, but with these four tips you can ensure that your next batch of hard boiled eggs will be easy to peel!

1. Use fresh eggs.

The pH level of fresh egg whites is higher than that of older eggs, which can make them difficult to peel. To solve this problem, you can use store-bought eggs (which are slightly older than farm fresh eggs), which have a lower pH level and are therefore easier to peel.

2. Cook your eggs in hot water instead of cold.

Using cold water to boil eggs is a common tip, but it can actually cause the shells to fuse together and be harder to peel later on. For best results, cook your eggs in a pan of boiling water and then gently remove them to a bowl of cold water once they’re cooked through.

3. Add baking soda to the water when you cook your eggs.

Adding a teaspoon of baking soda to the water during the cooking process is said to raise the pH level of the egg whites, which makes them easier to peel. But, you should only add it if you’re making Perfect Boiled Eggs and want to ensure the whites are firm without turning the yolks runny.

4. Crack the egg all over before peeling it.

Taking the time to crack your egg all over the shell before peeling it will help to break up the glue that holds the shell on. This is a great tip for getting even hard-boiled eggs to peel easily, and it can be done with or without a knife.

5. Dip your egg in a bowl of water or hold it under running water to make it easier to peel.

A lot of people have trouble peeling hard boiled eggs, so one way to make them easier to peel is to dunk them in a bowl of cold water or hold them under running water. The cold water will trick the egg into releasing the glue that holds the shell on, and it’ll also cool the egg quickly so that it’s much easier to peel.

6. Use a spoon to peel your hard boiled egg.

You can peel your hard boiled egg with a spoon by finding the hollow spot at the large end, and then slipping the spoon underneath the shell until the shell pops off. This is my favorite method and it’s easy to do with just your hands!

7. Cool your eggs thoroughly before peeling them.

When you peel your hard boiled egg, start at the larger end and then work your way to the small end. This will make it easier to get the egg shell off because it will be in larger pieces.
