Does the Location of a Headache Mean Anything?
Headaches are a very common condition. They affect around 1 in 4 adults – that’s a lot of people. And although they don’t usually cause major problems, they can be bothersome and affect your quality of life.
They are often accompanied by nausea, vomiting and changes in vision, as well as pain. They’re also sometimes a sign of something serious like an aneurysm or stroke, so it’s important to get them checked out.
There are a number of ways you can tell if your headache is a migraine, tension headache or a sinus headache. You need to consider the location, intensity, frequency, and duration of your attacks to work out which one you have.
Migraines are characterized by a throbbing, pulsating pain on one side of your head or both sides. It may also be accompanied by nausea, light sensitivity or vomiting.
Tension headaches are similar, but they’re more common in women and happen when your neck or scalp muscles become tense, often as a result of stress. You can also get these types of headaches if you have a cold or other allergies.
If the headache or facial pain is primarily on one side of your head, it may be a sinus headache. This can happen if you have hay fever or another type of allergy that causes inflammation of your nasal passages. A sinus headache can also be associated with a runny nose and watery eyes.
In addition to the above, if your headache or facial pain is associated with weakness on one side of your body or difficulty with speech, it could be a sign that you’re having a stroke. This is something that you should always seek medical help for immediately, because it could mean you’re having a brain aneurysm or bleeding in the brain (see Differences between a Stroke and a Migraine).
Your doctor will ask a few questions to determine what kind of headache you have. They will also try to find out where the pain is coming from, and what other symptoms are present at the same time.
You will have to remember that there are many different types of headaches and their characteristics are very specific. A headache can come on suddenly, causing intense pain, and can last a long time.
The most common and common types of headaches are tension headaches and migraine headaches. They can occur anywhere on the head and are very common in adults, adolescents and children.
They can be severe, but they typically come and go over a period of time, affecting your daily activities.
If your headaches are causing you problems at home, work or school, they may be signs of a serious health problem. You should see your doctor as soon as possible if they don’t improve after some treatment.
A migraine is a very serious disorder. It can be very difficult to diagnose and treat. It can cause a lot of pain and can also lead to other symptoms, such as nausea, photosensitivity, vomiting or light sensitivity.
