2022-P Wilma Mankiller Quarter Error

A Florida collector recently discovered a 2022-P Wilma Mankiller quarter error. The collector, who is 10 years old, found 14 coins with progressive retained cud, an error that occurs when a part of the die face breaks off along the rim. This can cause raised design features on the coin.

A photo of the 14th example Clark sent to me shows a mint error. The rims of the coin are weak, and it has a major retained cud. Some examples of the coin have appeared on eBay. I checked with MK, who is a major error coin dealer and collector. He has authored “100 Greatest U.S. Error Coins,” as well as “The Error Coin Encyclopedia.” MK is also a member of the PNG and an ICTA board member.
